Gavel & Ledger

Privacy

This site is run by RMC Holdings Co Pty Ltd (ACN 675 135 618). This page explains what we collect about you, why, and who sees it.

The short version

  • We collect what we need to run a fair auction between real, identified bidders, and no more.
  • Other bidders see you only as a number (for example, Bidder 3). Your maximum bid is hidden from everyone.
  • We do not keep copies of your ID or your selfie.
  • We do not sell your details.

What we collect

  • Your account details: your name, email address, phone number and address, and your company name and ABN if you bid for a company.
  • The result of your identity check: whether it passed, your name as read from your ID, and the type of document.
  • Your registration for each lot: the terms you accepted and when, and whether your deposit has been paid or refunded.
  • Every bid you place: the amount and the time.
  • Which data room documents you open and when, and any questions you ask about a lot.
  • The internet address and browser used when you accept the terms, place a bid or open a data room document.

We do not see or store your card number. Card payments for deposits are handled by Stripe.

Identity checks

Identity checks are carried out by Stripe. You are asked for a photo of a government-issued ID and a selfie, which Stripe compares. By starting the check you consent to that comparison. We receive the result, your name and the type of document. We do not keep copies of your ID or selfie.

Why we use it

We use your details to run the auction, to complete a sale, and to meet our legal obligations. That includes checking that bidders are who they say they are, keeping the record of the bids, sending you receipts and notices about lots you have registered for, and refunding deposits.

Who sees it

  • Other bidders and the public see only your bidder number, the amounts bid and the times. They never see your name or your maximum.
  • Questions you ask about a lot are published with their answers to every approved bidder on that lot, without your name.
  • If you win, your name and contact details are given to the seller and to Escrow.com to complete the sale. Escrow.com carries out its own identity checks.
  • Stripe handles identity checks and card payments. The companies that host this site and send our emails process data for us so the site can work.
  • We may disclose information where the law requires it.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use them for advertising.

How long we keep it

The record of the bids on a lot, and of who placed them, is the record of the auction and is kept. We keep other details for as long as we need them to run the auction, complete a sale and meet our legal obligations.

Seeing or correcting your details

You can ask us for a copy of the details we hold about you, or ask us to correct them, using the contact details on this site. If you are not happy with how we have handled your details, tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
